The University of Louisville, in coordination with the National Institute of Health, is studying Genetic and Environmental Risk Factors associated with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, more commonly called PSP.

There is little known about the causes of this neurodegenerative disorder. We will be studying 500 people who have PSP and collecting data to better understand this disorder.

This study involves very little of your time and does not cost you anything if you qualify.

Do I qualify for the Study?

If you have been diagnosed with PSP and meet the following criteria, you qualify for the study.

  • You are 40 years of age or older
  • You are able to participate in a telephone interview
  • You have no other Neurological Disorders

If you meet the above criteria, we would love for you to be part of this exciting study!

What does the study involve?

You will be asked to complete the following procedures:

  • An evaluation by a Movement Disorder Specialist to confirm the diagnosis of PSP
  • Blood drawn for genetic studies
  • Identify 2 people who want to serve as healthy controls in this study. Ideally, one will be a spouse or caregiver and the other will be an age and gender matched, non-blood relative, such as an in-law.
  • Take part in a telephone survey in which a series of questions asking about environmental exposures, such as those from jobs and hobbies you have had throughout your life.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask your neurologist or call us at: 1-866-PSP-0448 to be referred to the screening site of your choice.
